HOME           GOLDEN JUBILEE             MILESTONES               RESEARCH             IN 50 YEARS

The Department of Microbiology at The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda is celebrating the completion of 50 years of its establishment. The Microbiology M.Sc. course, initially housed at the Department of Biochemistry soon flourished in to an independent Department with Masterís course and Ph.D. programs under the able headship of Prof. V. V. Modi. Ever since, this Department has lead the way in the excellent training of several microbiologists particularly emphasizing on the modern aspects of microbial genetics, molecular biology, recombinant DNA technology and fermentation technology. In 1985 Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India selected five centers across India to start the prestigious all India program for M.Sc. Biotechnology and the Department of Microbiology at MSU was one amongst those five. The centre continues to be the most popular amongst the students till date. A centre for Genome Research was established in 1999 to cater the use of new and emerging technologies like genome analysis and bioinformatics for study of plant and microbial genomes. The centre was identified by Gujarat State Biotechnology Mission (GSBTM) as centre of excellence.

The Department of Microbiology and its Alumni Association  is pleased to invite the scientific community as well as professionals, educationists and post-graduate students either working or interested in a future career in Modern Biology to participate in a two day International Conference on "Integrating basic and translational research in Modern Biology".
